Commissioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; the Arabic Language Advisory Council is currently working on a report on the state of the Arabic language and its future. “The UAE will be a center of excellence in the Arabic language,” said Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, head of the Arabic Language Advisory Council, in previous statements, explaining that the report will contribute to addressing the challenges Facing the Arabic language in a scientific way, laying the cornerstone of the national agenda for the Arabic language with its goals and priorities associated with the percentage of the UAE.

According to Al Kaabi, the UAE pays special attention to consolidating the status of the Arabic language among the languages ​​of the world, and enhancing its presence in the hearts of the younger generations, as it is the expression of national identity, authentic values ​​and Arab culture, and represents the bridge between generations and their cultural and historical heritage.

The report is scheduled to be released on December 18, a year after HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, released on December 18, 2018. The report has eight main axes; the first is the use of Arabic in terms of proficiency in classical and understanding other dialects and the use of Arabic in daily life and Internet search instead of foreign languages. The second axis is concerned with the Arabic language in the media and advertising in terms of the use of classical versus slang in the media and the Internet and social media and in children's programs and advertising. The third axis focuses on the state of learning Arabic for its speakers through measuring the outcomes of education and qualifying teachers of Arabic language, and others. The fourth axis deals with Arabic content on the Internet, Arabic search and language processing applications.

Arabic language and technology is the subject of the fifth axis in the report; The sixth axis focuses on publishing, including published books and major publishing houses in the Arab world, the size of the publishing industry and the number of books read per year, in addition to a glimpse of publishing and modern technologies. The seventh axis deals with translation from the Arabization of technical terms, through the classification of books translated from other languages, up to the size of the translation. The eighth and final axis focuses on the references and legislation of the Arabic language from the Arabic language bodies, conferences, and awards.

The report is scheduled to be issued every five years, as one of the work of the Advisory Council for the Arabic language, with the support of the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO), under the supervision of the Department of Arabic Language at the American University of Beirut, and the contribution of the Arabic language departments in a number of prestigious universities and researchers in The Arabic Language Advisory Council shall follow up the progress of the report at all stages, and formulate cultural policies at the national and Arab levels in order to preserve and empower the Arabic language and enhance its presence, through the provision of valuable outputs and results that will serve as a reference for students. Researchers, and to enhance the status of Arabic as the language of science and knowledge of the language.

The report includes studies, researches and applied experiments in order to build a scientific approach to the state of the Arabic language and its future, which consists of five components are; a questionnaire, research study, case study related to each item of the questionnaire, a presentation of selected experiences of institutions concerned in Arabic, in addition to Opinion articles from actors in the field of Arabic language.

The report is prepared by a group of experts and researchers from regional and international universities whose mission is to monitor and collect information from academic sources, interview stakeholders, institutions, writers, media and publishers, and monitor changes in the current Arabic language, in addition to monitoring new approaches to teaching Arabic. The team will also prepare a report on the state of the Arabic language and its future in the UAE and compare it with the Arab countries.
