The schoolboy-inventor Daniil Kazantsev moved to the graduation 11th grade of Lyceum No. 12 in Yekaterinburg. He is interested in physics, electronics, programming, and developing various devices.

This summer brought him not only a victory, but also a grant in the amount of $ 15,000: Daniel became the finalist of the Google Science Fair contest and received the Lego Education Builder award. The final was selected 24 people from 14 countries.

Daniel presented to the competition a compact device that can replace a sign language interpreter, can interpret sign language, works autonomously and allows everyone who needs it to speak.

Daniel took up this work when he realized that there was a need for it. The schoolchild was impressed by the story of Oksana Beloborodova, a mother of many children from Alapayevsk. A woman does not hear or speak, she communicated with her children through her husband, and when he left her, the daughters stopped appearing at home. As a result, the court decided to deprive her of her parental rights, and sent the girls to an orphanage. She could not protect her rights and return the daughters of Beloborodov, because there were no sign language interpreters in the guardianship bodies.

“He is encouraged to act like such stories,” shares Irina Mankova, who teaches physics at the Lyceum, where Daniel is studying, with RT. - He wants to help people. And he was very inspired by an article about a woman from the Urals. Then the officials found a woman who does not hear, unable to take care of the children. It was after this story that Daniel decided that the inventors could solve this problem so that other such problems would not arise. ”

The development of Daniil Kazantsev with the help of electromyography (registration of electrical activity of muscles - RT) allows determining the position of hands in space, and the device translates gestures into words.

It can be combined with any sign language dictionary. It is easy to use and therefore does not require any special training from the person.

By the way, Daniel is not the first time participating in competitions. So, in May, he became the winner of the Second Grand Award in the system programming section at the world fair of scientific achievements of schoolchildren Intel ISEF in the USA.

“They say scientists have always loved to think about meaningless tasks, which is worth only the famous“ Fly on the Other Side of the Moon, ”to which Hilbert and Landau addressed,” says RT Daniel Kazantsev. - When mathematician David Hilbert was asked what the most important task for science was, he replied: “To catch a fly on the far side of the moon”, specifying that no one needs to catch flies by themselves, but in order to accomplish this, they will have to solve many important and difficult tasks . “It seems to me that, by setting such incredible and even stupid tasks, the scientists wanted to say that under any of them there could be a solution to some more important global problem,” added the finalist of the Google contest.

Unlike the times of Hilbert and Landau, the task about the fly today is more than solvable, Daniel continues: “Only now the task itself is posed as follows:“ To simulate the behavior of the artificial intelligence of a fly in conditions of imitation of the back side of the Moon ”. But if you complicate this task before “Simulate the behavior of artificial intelligence of a person”, this will mean that the border between artificial intelligence and a person will be completely erased, and it looks not so stupid as you think? ”

According to Daniel, a prototype of artificial intelligence can be found even in fairy tales: “This is probably a carpet-plane. He himself knows something where, even by “popular” names, he carries himself, and even communicates with you as a person, entertains on the road. What is not artificial intelligence? After all, the carpet-plane on request “take to Koschey” does not return the answer “to what address does Koschey live,” right? It means, quite an intellect, ”the student concluded.
