Carice van Houten has been nominated for an Emmy Award for best guest role in Game of Thrones. This was revealed on Tuesday evening at the official announcement of the nominations for the Emmy Awards.
Van Houten can only be seen in one episode in the last season of the series, but is still nominated with her interpretation of the character Melisandre. Game of Thrones itself has the chance to win multiple prizes. With 32 nominations, the series has won a record number of nominations at the Emmy Awards.
Game of Thrones is eligible for the titles best drama series, best fight, best male lead and best female lead. Last year the fantasy series received 22 nominations.
The other drama series that have a chance of winning an award are Better Call Saul , Bodyguard , Killing Eve , Ozark , Pose , Succession and This Is Us . In the comedy category are Barry , Fleabag , Russian Doll , Schitt's Creek , The Good Place , The Marveous Mrs. Maisel and Veep contenders.

The actors who have been nominated for a prize in a drama series are Jason Bateman ( Ozark ), Sterling K. Brown ( This Is Us ), Kit Harington ( Game of Thrones ), Bob Odenkirk ( Better Call Saul ), Billy Porter ( Pose ) and Milo Ventimiglia ( This Is Us ).
The nominees for best actress in a drama series include Emilia Clarke ( Game of Thrones ), Jodie Comer ( Killing Eve ), Viola Davis ( How to Get Away With Murder ), Laura Linney ( Ozark ), Mandy Moore ( This Is Us ), Sandra Oh ( Killing Eve ) and Robin Wright ( House of Cards ).
A few series that have often been nominated before, including The Handmaid's Tale , Big Little Lies and Stranger Things , have no chance of winning an Emmy this year. These series were only broadcast after May, and to have a chance of being nominated, the series must have premiered before 31 May.
The nominations were announced by actors D'arcy Carden ( The Good Place, Barry ) and Ken Jeong ( Crazy Rich Asians, Dr. Ken ).
The 71st edition of the Emmy Awards will be presented in Los Angeles on Sunday 22 September.
