Smollett is accused on sixteen points and declared to be innocent on all points, Variety writes .

According to prosecutors, the actor set an attack on himself at the end of January. He told the police that two men attacked him and racist and homophobic slogans shouted at him. They would also have bleached over him and put a rope around his neck.

After viewing camera images, the two men could be traced. According to the police, the brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo, who both worked on the set of Empire . Prosecutors state that Smollett paid them $ 3,500 for the fake attack, so that he could then ask his employer for storage.

If Smollett is found guilty, he can be sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison.
