Emmanuel Macron denied on Thursday, during a meeting with about fifteen LGBT associations, any "setback" on the issue of the opening of medically assisted procreation (PMA) to all women, ensuring that the bioethics law containing this campaign promise would be promulgated "current 2019".

Emmanuel Macron, who received some fifteen LGBT associations (lesbian, gay, bi, trans) at the Élysée on Thursday, assured them that the extension of medically assisted procreation (PMA) to all women would be promulgated in 2019. according to several participants interviewed by AFP.

"The president has reaffirmed his willingness to expand the PMA, with promulgation next year , " told AFP the president of SOS Homophobia, Joel Deumier.

PMA is now allowed for infertile heterosexual couples. The majority intends to open it to couples of women, as well as singles, as part of the revision of bioethics laws, in accordance with the campaign commitments of candidate Macron.

An interparliamentary commission

The head of state has also confirmed to associations the forthcoming creation of an interparliamentary commission of senators and deputies of all political stripes, prior to the tabling of the bill in cabinet.

"He told us several times that he did not want to go to the hussar. He thinks that we need to broaden the debate, that there are still people to federate, " said Alexander Urwicz, president of the Association of homoparental families.

Several LR senators, including their president Bruno Retailleau, opposed to the reform, have already expressed their hostility to this commission.

"He assured that there was no ambiguity on the subject, nor metaphysical questions," added Mr. Urwicz, while several LGBT associations were worried about the successive postponements of the examination of the text. "There was a very open discussion with the associations that allowed them to express some impatience," said the Elysee to AFP.

Two lesbian associations denounce renunciations

Initially, the government announced that it would submit the bioethics bill before the end of the year for a parliamentary debate in the first quarter of 2019. "The president refuted any postponement and explained that had never announced a schedule, " said Catherine Michaud, GayLib Association. "The goal is not to introduce the law as quickly as possible, but to ensure that this law is passed and promulgated. That's what will really change people's lives , " said the presidency.

Two lesbian associations, the European Lesbian Conference and the Debuggers, left the meeting early, expressing "their anger and despair at the renunciation of successive governments on the PMA," in a text consulted by AFP.
