Writer Vladimir Nabokov was born on April 22, 1899 in St. Petersburg. He came from a noble family, his father was a member of the Cadet party, and his grandfather was a minister of justice. After the 1917 revolution, the writer's family moved to the Crimea, but after a couple of years she fled to Germany and then to France. When World War II began, the Nabokovs moved to the United States. The writer returned to Europe only in 1960 and spent the rest of his life in Switzerland.
