China News Service, Guangzhou, March 23 (Cai Minjie and Han Wenqing) "What is old? It's not about age, but when a person doesn't want to learn new things, he's really old." Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said on the 23rd The Datansha Campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University encourages the team to be creative, to be able to develop new technologies and to become a world leader.

On the same day, Zhong Nanshan and his wife came to the Datansha Campus and walked into the newly opened respiratory intervention center.

Zhong Nanshan recalled that 46 years ago, he and a nurse went to Zhejiang to learn respiratory interventional techniques. When he came back a month later, under very difficult conditions, he began to enter the stage of exploration and practice. "At that time, we only had three people, working during the day and working at night. The platform has become an experimental platform, and everyone has the energy to develop this technology." Zhong Nanshan said.

In 1976, Zhong Nanshan took the lead in carrying out bronchoscopy in the hospital.

Over the years, Professor Li Shiyue and others have led the team to continue to move forward, and now they have built the largest and most advanced respiratory intervention platform in China with a total area of more than 2,000 square meters, a hybrid operating room equipped with mobile CT, C-arm X-ray machine, etc. Micro-endoscope, optical coherence tomography equipment and other equipment, with 20 operating rooms, can complete all-round respiratory interventional diagnosis and treatment operations through airway, percutaneous, and transvascular.

Zhong Nanshan said that he saw the growing intervention team and the brand-new respiratory intervention center platform in Datansha Hospital, which has developed airway intervention, pulmonary vascular intervention, percutaneous intervention and other related subspecialties, and has a full-time anesthesia team. , this has been his dream for many years, "In the beginning, we could only do simple foreign body removal in respiratory intervention, but now we can do laser freezing technology, and pulmonary vascular intervention has been developed, which can not only make diagnosis, but has also achieved heart and lung, A comprehensive platform for trachea and lungs, arteries and veins, etc., which intersects multiple disciplines, with parallel diagnosis and treatment."

Zhong Nanshan expects that artificial intelligence technology can be applied to OCT (optical coherence tomography) technology in the future to solve medical problems and discover more problems, instead of just being satisfied with the status quo of "skilled use", the most important thing is to have creativity The ability to develop new technologies, "We must do what others can do, and we must do what others can't do, and we must create more and become a world leader." Academician Zhong Nanshan encouraged the team with one sentence : "What is old? It's not about age, it's about when a person doesn't want to learn new things, he's really old."

According to reports, the Respiratory Intervention Center has systematically trained respiratory endoscopy professionals since the late 1970s, and has trained more than 1,500 respiratory endoscopy physicians, including physicians from the United States, South Korea, India and other countries or regions for short-term study. It has long-term cooperation and exchanges with the world's advanced intervention centers such as Germany, Japan, and the United States, and has attracted trainees from all over the country.

Zhong Nanshan hopes that the Respiratory Intervention Center can continue to carry forward this spirit of teaching and mentoring and build a first-class talent training base.
