China News Service, September 14 According to official WeChat news from Xiamen Intermediate People’s Court of Fujian Province, on September 14, the Xiamen Intermediate People’s Court of Fujian Province publicly sentenced Zhang Jian, the former president of the Anhui Higher People’s Court, to the defendant. Zhang Jian was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for accepting bribes and fined RMB 5 million. The property and fruits of Zhang Jian's bribery were recovered and turned over to the state treasury.

Zhang Jian said in court that he would obey the verdict and would not appeal.

The trial found that from 1995 to 2019, the defendant Zhang Jian used to serve as the deputy director and director of the Hubei Provincial Prison Administration Bureau, the deputy director and director of the Hubei Provincial Justice Department, the deputy director of the Hubei Provincial Higher People’s Court, and the senior officer of Anhui Province. The convenience of the president of the people’s court and the conditions for the formation of powers and status, seeking benefits for others in project contracting, personnel transfer, case trial and other matters, illegally received others’ property totaling more than 71.79 million yuan, of which 24.03 million Yu Yuan has not been actually obtained and is an attempted crime.

The Xiamen Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Zhang Jian's behavior constituted a crime of accepting bribes, and the amount was extremely large, and should be punished in accordance with the law.

Given that Zhang Jian received part of the property as an attempted crime, he was able to truthfully confess his crimes after he arrived at the case, and proactively confessed most of the facts about bribery crimes that the case-handling agency has not yet grasped, pleaded guilty, repented, and actively returned the stolen goods. Most of the stolen money and stolen goods involved in the case have been recovered. There are statutory and discretionary circumstances for lighter punishments, and lighter punishments can be imposed in accordance with the law.

The court then made the above verdict.
