The inauguration of the new T13 tram line serving the east of Yvelines was disrupted by demonstrators on Wednesday.
The protesters, residents of housing located near the tracks, wanted to denounce the noise pollution generated by this new means of transport.
The noise of the trains is at its maximum when their speed is high, especially in Noisy-le-Roi and Bailly (Yvelines).
The protest movement led to the blocking of the first trams to make the journey.
Valérie Pécresse, president of the Regional Council and of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), the organizing authority for transport in the region, was on board one of them.
Her maiden voyage ended earlier than expected.
Upcoming talks
The politician estimated that the inhabitants had "become used to standards of silence that they do not find today", after the health crisis linked to Covid-19.
She nevertheless recognized a “noise problem”.
IDFM has for its part promised to discuss with local residents to find solutions.
