[Explanation] On January 19, the fifth meeting of the 12th Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference opened in Kunming. Several members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference said in an interview with reporters that at present, China's achievements in Asian elephant protection need to be further consolidated and the establishment of Asian elephants The long-term protection mechanism is inseparable from the multi-country, multi-disciplinary and multi-subject cooperation.

[Explanation] In 2021, the northward movement of Asian elephants has become the focus of heated discussions around the world.

In China, the Asian elephant is a national first-class protected animal.

China has always attached great importance to the protection of Asian elephants and their habitats. Through a series of measures such as the protection of wild animals and plants and the construction of nature reserves, strengthening of containment, rescue and breeding, and strict law enforcement and supervision, the number of Asian elephants in the world has dropped by 90% in a century. % situation, the number of Asian elephants in China has not decreased but increased, from 146 in 1976 to about 300 now.

[Explanation] Duan Changqun, member of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and deputy director of the Central Resources and Environment Special Committee of Jiusan Society, said that China's protection of Asian elephants has been quite effective in the past half century, and what follows is how to consolidate this protection effect. Among them It also implies the deep logic of the northward movement of Asian elephants.

It belongs to the (space) that should be reserved for elephants. We should not occupy it. In this (part) belonging to us, we should guard it well, and it is best not to conflict with each other.

Elephant is an international animal, it (range of activities) is interspersed from inside and outside the relevant countries.

At this time, we need to strengthen international cooperation, which is also very important.

[Explanation] Duan Changqun suggested that according to the specific situation of the population, distribution and food distribution of Asian elephants, formulate "one elephant and one policy", rationally plan the land space, divide the areas for human and elephant activities, integrate protection and development, and strengthen International cooperation to achieve continuous and even permanent protection.

In fact, from the perspective of all aspects of its diet, elephants mainly live in forest margins and forest gaps, that is to say, not in primitive jungles.

It is mainly based on a lot of grasses, and these are mainly on the edge of the forest, or a gap in the middle of the virgin forest, so it does not mean that the more virgin jungle we protect, the better. The denser the better.

[Explanation] Lai Qingkui, a member of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a professor at Southwest Forestry University, said that biodiversity conservation, including Asian elephants, is based on the integrity of the ecosystem, the complexity of nature, and is also affected by the dialectical unity between human society and nature.

Whether it is biodiversity protection or wild elephant protection, we cannot consider it from a single discipline, we should approach it from multiple disciplines.

For multi-disciplinary, you include we may consider from ecology, wildlife conservation, biology of wildlife, and we consider multi-disciplinary from sociology, anthropology, economics.

[Explanation] Xie Liping, member of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and full-time vice-chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee of the Jiusan Society, suggested that the protection of Asian elephants should involve the participation of multiple subjects in the whole society.

As for the participation of the whole society, I think one is an active participation in ideology and knowledge, and the other is to participate in an economical way.
