The Dutch fast skating association announced on Friday that Lara van Roijven is a short skating athlete on the short track, and has passed away at the age of 27.

And medical tests showed that Van Ruygfen was suffering from an autoimmune disease last June during a training camp in France.

Van Roijven has entered the intensive care unit of a hospital in the city of Perpignan, but her condition has worsened over the past few days despite having undergone two surgeries, according to the association of the speed skating association.

"Terrible news we have just received. It is a loss for the world of sports," said Gerwin Oter, the coach of the Dutch fast skating team.

Van Roogeven was crowned world champion in the 500 meters in 2019.
