August 19, 2021 "The Delta variant could pose short-term challenges to local economies and the labor market."

This is the alarm raised by the US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, in a letter sent to Congress. "The American Rescue Plan," writes Yellen in a letter signed with Labor Secretary Martin Walsh, "has allocated $ 350 billion to support communities in responding to the pandemic and addressing its economic impacts."

According to Yellen, the reform of the unemployment benefit system should be included in the budget bill. For the secretary of the Treasury, worried about the labor market, some states could extend the duration of the extra subsidies created to combat the coronavirus pandemic, which is expected to end on September 6.

Already on the sidelines of the G20 Finance in Venice, meeting the press, Yellen posed the problem: "The Delta variant of Covid could threaten global recovery because we are an interconnected economy, what happens in any part of the world affects all other countries ".
