Xinjiang: 128 Przewalski's wild horses have returned to nature in 20 years

　　China News Service, Urumqi, September 16 (Zhang Hefan) A reporter learned from the Xinjiang Wild Horse Breeding Research Center on the 16th that in the past few days, 18 Przewalski's wild horses have been released to the Xinjiang Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Wildlife Nature Reserve.

After a brief adaptation, these wild horses will bid farewell to captive life and return to nature.

　　So far, since the first batch of 27 Przewalski's wild horses was released into the Karamaili Mountain Ungulate Wildlife Nature Reserve in August 2001, there have been 17 batches of 128 Przewalski's wild horses released into the wild.

　　The release of the Platts Mustang was carried out in two batches, with 8 horses in the first batch and 10 horses in the second batch.

The release site is at the Arbor Xibai Wildlife Reserve in the Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Wildlife Nature Reserve.

About 20 minutes after the released Przewalski's wild horses came to the "new home", they gradually calmed down from the initial nervousness and excitement, and began to bow their heads to eat fresh weeds on the ground.

　　Przewalski's wild horse is a national first-class protected animal in China, and is listed on the Red List of Endangered Species of the World Conservation Union.

Przewalski's wild horse is the only wild horse species in the world. Its native land is in the Junggar Basin of Xinjiang, China and the western part of Mongolia.

　　Since 1985, China has successively introduced Przewalski's wild horses from overseas and established the Xinjiang Wild Horse Breeding Research Center to save this endangered species.

Xinjiang Wild Horse Breeding Research Center has successfully bred more than 760 wild horses for 6 generations.

　　According to statistics, as of the end of 2020, the total number of wild wild horses in the Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Wildlife Nature Reserve reached 274, 10 times that of 20 years ago.

At present, the number of Przewalski's wild horses in Xinjiang accounts for about one-fifth of the total number of Przewalski's wild horses in the world.
