Rendsburg (dpa / lno) - Many workers at the insolvent Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg responded to IG Metall's call for a rally on Monday.
On the Kiel Canal and other shipyard locations in Germany, the union wanted to set an example for the 12th Maritime Conference.
"The signal must go out from the conference in Rostock: Together we can secure the future of shipbuilding in Germany", the district manager of the IG Metall coast, Daniel Friedrich, had previously announced.
Schleswig-Holstein's Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP) and SPD state chairwoman Serpil Midyatli also spoke at the rally.
The traditional Nobiskrug shipyard with around 330 employees is to be sold.
On April 12, the company filed for bankruptcy at the Neumünster District Court.
The company cited critical developments in yacht construction as the reason.
Nobiskrug is part of the international shipbuilding group Privinvest.
The group also includes the German Naval Yards Kiel and Lindenau-Werft in Kiel.
Neither shipbuilding company is affected by the Nobiskrug bankruptcy.
The shipyard on the Kiel Canal, which specializes in the construction of luxury yachts over 60 meters in length, has built well over 750 ships since it was founded in 1905.
One of the best-known newbuildings of the past few years was the almost 143-meter-long mega sailing yacht “A”.
But it was built by Nobiskrug in Kiel.
