Norwegian police announced that five people were killed and two others injured in an attack by a man armed with an archery bow in the southeastern town of Kongsberg.

"Unfortunately I can confirm that five people were killed and two others were injured" on Wednesday, local police official Evin As told a news conference.

He added that the two wounded were taken to the intensive care unit, but their lives are not in danger.

As explained that one of the injured was a policeman who was out of work shopping in a store.

This store is one of several sites where the attacker targeted his victims.

"The police arrested the man who committed this act, and according to our information, there is only one person involved" in the attack, As said.

He added, "Given the course of what happened, it is normal for us to consider whether it was a terrorist attack," stressing that "the arrested man has not been questioned yet and it is too early to talk about his motives."
