A man of about fifty was tried on Tuesday before the criminal court of Quimper (Finistère) for violence on his former partner, reports Ouest-France . The facts took place on April 6 in Concarneau. Described as "jealous and possessive", the individual had subjected his former partner to a real ordeal that day. For several minutes, he insulted and beat her before trying to strangle her. The woman had finally found refuge with a neighbor.

Drinking five liters of beer every day, the man had a blood alcohol level of 4.40 grams on the day of the drama, the daily said. At the hearing, which was held by videoconference, the suspect was unable to explain his repeated acts of violence, feigning amnesia. He was sentenced to four years in prison, including one year with a two-year probationary suspension. He will also have to pay 5,000 euros to his former partner.
