Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22538 is now available.
This release features some interface changes, voice input improvements, and fixes some user-reported issues.
But above all, it marks the return of the
Network Connection
manager .
Control Panel Resistance
The Windows
Control Panel first
appeared with Windows 8. Microsoft has been trying to replace it with the
Settings
app for about ten years .
So, even though the
Control Panel
is still present in the systems, most of the tweaks run direct the user to similar settings located in the
Settings
module .
In its latest Windows 11 builds, the company decided to remove the network connection tool from
Control Panel
.
A page that allows you to manage the connection to the Web and to the local network.
However, Build 22538 seems to take a different turn.
The comings and goings of the Network Connection Manager
The Network Connection
control panel
is the interface for managing network cards.
It is used to manage the connection to the Web and to the local network and is accessible using the shortcut
ncpa.cpl
.
But, following updates from several previous builds, this shortcut no longer redirected to
Network Connections but
to
Advanced Network Settings
in the new
Settings
interface .
Note that the file associated with the configuration panel has never been completely deleted.
The
ncpa.cpl
file still exists in the
C:³Windows³System32
folder .
But with its latest build, Microsoft seems to be backtracking.
Indeed, with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22538, Microsoft once again allows you to open the
Network Connection
interface , thus making it operational again.
Changes in the interface and voice input
Weather, stock market, news… With Build 22538, Windows 11 introduces information widgets.
For example, the Widgets panel icon will display weather information right on the taskbar.
The user can arrange the Widgets according to his interests.
It will also be possible to program them so that they refer the user to other applications such as the calendar or the task manager.
Voice access is now compatible with the touch keyboard.
The user can use it to dictate names, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, punctuation or even emojis.
Voice packs for Voice Typing are available from the Microsoft Store.
Fixed some bugs
Windows has fixed many bugs reported by users.
For example, a bug that caused text to appear in the Settings app has been fixed.
Similarly, using keys to adjust the volume level should no longer crash Explorer.
Meanwhile, Wi-Fi signal indicators in Quick Settings now correctly reflect signal strength bars.
As a final example, the delayed audio sync issue that occurred when playing a video after the computer came out of sleep has been mitigated.
