It is difficult to quit smoking because of a disease called tobacco dependence syndrome.

In terms of etiology, we need to find the culprit from a medical point of view. In fact, it is the nicotine in tobacco. It is a highly addictive substance and it is difficult to withdraw.

General survey data show that, mainly in the first week, especially in the first month, two-thirds of people will relapse.

There are a large part of the reasons for relapse. The first is that the withdrawal symptoms are painful. Nearly 62% of smokers quit smoking because of various withdrawal symptoms, including irritability, irritability, restlessness, and attention. It is difficult to concentrate, and it is difficult to suppress the craving for smoking. These withdrawal symptoms lead to failure to quit smoking.

What is also partly because of?

It is because of the influence of the surrounding environment.

Of course, there is also partly because of weight gain after quitting smoking, because of this reason it led to relapse.

[Question 4] Can I quit smoking by replacing cigarettes with e-cigarettes?

[Concurrent] Liang Lirong, Head of Smoking Cessation Clinic, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital

First of all, the real and accurate name of e-cigarettes is electronic nicotine delivery system, so there is nicotine in it.

I just mentioned that traditional cigarettes make it difficult for us to quit, and the most culprit of addiction is nicotine.

One consequence of addiction is that you can't get rid of e-cigarettes, but the most important thing is that most people will eventually return to traditional cigarettes because it is "not strong".

Another thing is that we need to know that nicotine, like traditional cigarettes, has cardiovascular and cerebrovascular effects on our body, including damage to our cognitive structure and function.

There are other ingredients in e-cigarettes. Like traditional cigarettes, it also contains heavy metals and formaldehyde. These are carcinogens.

[Question 5] Are smoking cessation products such as smoking cessation stickers and smoking cessation candy helpful to quit smoking?

[Concurrent] Liang Lirong, Head of Smoking Cessation Clinic, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital

These products are not regulated by the market, so it is impossible for them to undergo strict toxicology, safety and effectiveness evaluations before they are marketed or used by ordinary people. Therefore, we think that they are just a commodity. Used as an auxiliary product for smoking cessation.
