Last month's domestic shipments of so-called white goods such as air conditioners and refrigerators fell below the same month last year, declining for the fourth straight month, as demand for nesting due to the new coronavirus has run its course.

According to the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association, the domestic shipment value of white goods last month was about 185.4 billion yen, 12.2% lower than the same month last year.

Shipments have fallen below the same month last year for the fourth straight month, mainly due to a reactionary decline in demand for nesting due to the new coronavirus.

By product, air conditioners decreased by 24.9%, refrigerators decreased by 14.3%, and hot plates decreased by 29.1%.

In addition, the domestic shipment value for the first half of this year up to September was 1,322.3 billion yen, which was higher than the average for the past 10 years, partly due to the influence of the demand for nesting, but the shipment value for the first half of last year was increased. It was below 3.5%.

Regarding the future outlook, the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association says, "I would like to keep an eye on the trends after the state of emergency is lifted."
