A tripartite discussion was held at the Tokyo High Court regarding the retrial of the so-called "Hakamada Case", which means redoing the trial.

It is expected that the Tokyo High Court will make a decision within the year on whether to allow the trial to be redone.

Iwao Hakamada, 86, was sentenced to death in 1966 for the murder of a family of four in what is now Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City.

According to the defense team, the future schedule was discussed at the three-party consultation on the 26th, and the deadline for submitting the final written opinion of both the defense and the prosecution was decided on December 2nd.



In addition, it has been officially decided that the defense team will have an opportunity to verbally explain the contents of the written opinion in December, and that the judge will visit the experiment being conducted by the prosecution in early November.



The court has informed us that they would like to make a decision by the end of March next year, so it is expected that the Tokyo High Court will make a decision within the year on whether to allow the trial to be redone.



Attorney Hideyo Ogawa, a lawyer, said, "I feel that the court is taking a very positive attitude, and I can expect a decision."
