Since December 6, a new kind of Christmas tree has been preparing in Bordeaux.

An 11-meter-high cone made up of emerald-colored one-way mirrors on a steel structure is being erected near the town hall for the end of the year celebrations.

It will be highlighted on Friday evening and officially inaugurated this Saturday.

Last fall, Mayor Pierre Hurmic (EELV) banned from Place Pey-Berland the traditional giant Christmas tree, returned to its status of "dead tree".

He received a proposal from designer Arnaud Lapierre to replace the conifer.

The artist has already created a smaller glass tree for the Saint Petersburg Museum of Modern Art.

Inspired by the symbolism of the tree, he used recycled materials and worked with local artisans.

While the traditional Christmas tree cost 60,000 euros each year, this glass cone can be reused.
