Chinanews client, Changsha, September 17 (Reporter Zhang Xu) On September 16, the first Beidou Scale Application International Summit was held in Changsha, Hunan. The academia and industry discussed the present and future, applications and vision of Beidou.

In August of this year, 31-year-old entrepreneur Lin Wenqin died in a car accident after driving a Weilai ES8 car and using NOP pilot.

What do Beidou experts think about assisted driving and autonomous driving technology?

In this regard, Li Donghang, executive director of the Beidou Space-Time Technology Research Institute of the Central Association, said to a reporter from Chinanews.com that Beidou cannot solve the safety problems in autonomous driving alone, but should rely on multi-sensor fusion.

"Whether it is L1, the current L3, or the future L4 technology system, Beidou is just one of the sensors. If you want to solve the problem of the integrated security system, you need multiple sensors, such as video recognition, radar recognition, etc., Beidou can do It is to obtain accurate time and space for the vehicle."

Li Donghang believes that Beidou can be combined with geographic information to improve the safety of autonomous driving.

"A very important aspect of driving safety is to identify what is safe and what is unsafe. Combining positioning information with Beidou space-time information can avoid risks to a large extent. In terms of controlling vehicle speed, it is not just Beidou's business. , It also involves speed sensors, including sensing technologies such as comprehensive perception under the Internet of Things technology."

Li Donghang also put forward the concepts of "Beidou+" and "+Beidou" at the forum.

"Beidou's large-scale application is not just a matter for Beidou. It is a combination of big data, 5G, geographic information, Internet of Things and other technologies, multi-level integration, in order to better solve the problem."

Regarding autonomous driving technology, Sun Zhongliang, general manager of BGI, told reporters that the L2 technology is mainly based on manual driving and provides the function of assisting vehicle driving. L3 is a quasi-automatic driving that can realize the freeway hand off the steering wheel.

At present, the technology that can be launched on the market is between L2 and L3, and its realization is inseparable from the role of Beidou's high-precision positioning.

Sun Zhongliang said: "From this perspective, with my country's Beidou-3 put into operation, it has achieved high reliability in the space segment and provided technical support. Coupled with sensors such as millimeter-wave radar cameras, autopilot can be realized through fusion calculations. Such a smart car transportation."

Autonomous driving is not only related to the car, but also to the road. What role can Beidou play in terms of vehicle-road coordination?

In this regard, Sun Zhongliang told reporters, “Car-road collaboration is still in its infancy. Various supporting facilities for smart highways, such as edge computing that supports vehicle-road collaboration, are embodied as smart poles and communication base stations in terms of hardware. The precise time of Beidou and the location information of the base station are indispensable infrastructure at this end of the road."

At present, BGI and SAIC Motor, based on self-developed high-precision positioning solutions, have jointly developed an overall solution for L2 autonomous driving and entered the mass production stage; in addition, BDS also provides the next generation of highway non-stop The toll system "Beidou Free Flow Mileage Toll System" provides a high-precision positioning solution, and provides basic technical support for road mileage tolls with precise path recognition.

Sun Zhongliang pointed out, "The development of Beidou applications is developing rapidly at a rate of 15%-16% per year, but in the field of global satellite navigation, we still have a lot of room for development. We need to keep a clear head and continue to work hard." (End)
