Water Resources Corporation and the Meteorological Administration are fighting for responsibility over the water crisis around the southern dam.

The Korea Water Resources Corporation said that it was unable to control the amount of discharge in the dam because the weather forecast was incorrect, but reporter Seo Dong-gyun confirmed how accurate the weather forecast in the affected area was.

Water Resources Corporation maintained the normal level of discharge at the Seomjin River Dam even though a heavy rain warning was issued on the 7th, and then suddenly increased it to a maximum of 9 times the next day.

Eventually, the banks of the river collapsed and downstream areas such as Namwon, Gurye and Hadong became a sea of water.

In response to the criticism of prolonged discharge, the Korea Water Resources Corporation took responsibility for not being able to respond properly because the weather forecast was incorrect.

At that time, the Meteorological Administration predicted that it would rain more than 300mm for two days in Imsil, Jeollabuk-do, near the dam.

Then, what was the forecast for the area downstream of the dam that caused enormous damage?

On the 6th, the Meteorological Administration predicted that as many as 100 mm would fall in Gurye, Jeollanam-do, but in reality, 356 mm, more than three times, fell.

Hadong-do, Gyeongnam, where the Hwagae Market is submerged in water after 32 years, poured more than 300mm more than the forecast.

Residents of this area were forced to double damage not only from the sudden flooding of the river, but also from the unexpected heavy rain.

It wasn't just these regions that the Meteorological Agency missed forecasts.

On the 7th and 8th, 50-100mm of rain was forecast in Jeonnam and Gyeongnam, but in fact, 571mm in Damyang, 516mm in Gwangju, and 282mm in Geochang.

It has deviated by more than 400 mm, but the Meteorological Agency seems to have predicted the area affected by the rainy season to the north.

It is pointed out that just because the prediction of precipitation around the dam is correct, the Meteorological Agency cannot be free from responsibility for heavy rain damage.
