Wakayama Prefecture announced on the 7th that it was confirmed that three people were infected with the new mutant virus "Omicron strain" of the new corona.

At least one of these is considered to be a community-acquired Omicron strain because the route of infection is not clearly known.

According to Wakayama Prefecture, infection with the Omicron strain was confirmed in three people in their teens to 40s who had already been confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus.

Of these, a woman in her 40s had a family member who returned home from Kyoto Prefecture at the end of the year infected with the new coronavirus.

In addition, since teenage women included a person infected with the new corona among the participants of the sports competition in Osaka prefecture, Wakayama prefecture is said to be a person living outside the prefecture. I think I was infected by contact.

On the other hand, for a man in his 40s in Wakayama City, the route of infection is not clearly known, so the prefecture considers this man to be at least a community-acquired Omicron strain.

The prefecture also revealed on the 7th that 15 other people were suspected of being infected with the Omicron strain.

Takako Nojiri, technical director of Wakayama Prefecture, said, "Omicron strains are highly infectious, and there are concerns about the spread of infection in the prefecture in the future. We will do our utmost to prevent the spread of infection."
