“It’s safe to eat and drink here. I just hope that the water will go back early and see what’s going on at home.” On the early morning of the 23rd, Duan Xilin, who was holding a bowl of hot bean foam rice, was thinking about his 8 acres of cornfield in his heart.

Recalling the torrential rain on the evening of the 21st, the 65-year-old still had lingering fears. He bluntly said that "the first time he saw such a large amount of water in most of his life, he saw corn stalks more than one meter high being capped."

Duan Xilin is a villager in Wangliu Village, Gaozhuang Town, Anyang County, Anyang City, Henan Province.

In recent days, heavy rains continued in many parts of Henan, and Anyang, an ancient city located in the northern part of the provincial capital Zhengzhou, was also seriously affected by this round of rains.

As of 7:00 on the 23rd, the average precipitation in Anyang City reached 344 millimeters.

Although the waterlogging in the main urban area has gradually receded, the crisis in surrounding villages and towns has not been resolved, and large tracts of houses and farmland are still soaked in water.

On the morning of the 23rd, a reporter from China News Agency came to the No. 4 Middle School of Gaozhuang Town, Anyang County, where more than 1,300 people affected by the disaster like Duan Xilin were housed.

At the time of breakfast, two large iron pots were set up on the empty campus of the campus to cook noodles and bean curd rice. Volunteers handed out steamed buns and hanjutsu to the affected people who were queuing for food.

After the disaster, the No. 4 Middle School of Gaozhuang Town was temporarily requisitioned as a resettlement site, and the three-story teaching building accommodated people affected by the disaster from 9 surrounding villages.

After receiving an early warning on the 21st, the village and town staff informed the villagers of the transfer from house to house, while preparing daily necessities such as bedding, dry food, drinking water, and rushing to properly settle the villagers who had nowhere to rely on relatives and friends before the flood.

At present, 90,000 people have been transferred in Anyang County, and 29,000 people have been resettled in 27 resettlement sites.

"This doctor is really good. He takes our blood pressure twice every morning and evening." 73-year-old Li Juhua suffered from chronic diseases such as hypertension. During the emergency transfer, he could not take care of the common medicine and was sent to the resettlement site.

At first, she was quite worried, but when she saw Yang Jingjun, the doctor who was stationed in the resettlement site, she let go of her hanging heart.

Li Juhua told a reporter from China News Agency that the doctor not only helped her monitor her blood pressure, but also gave her antihypertensive drugs. When she first came, she was worried about her feelings at home. Volunteers often chatted with her and relieved her.

Wang Guiping, the first secretary of Jiangtai Village, Gaozhuang Town, who is in charge of on-site resettlement, introduced that the No. 4 Middle School of Gaozhuang Town is the largest resettlement site nearby. Due to the impact of rainfall and waterlogging, the purchase and transportation of living materials and food were not smooth at first. With hard work, the current stocks of various materials are sufficient.

In order to ensure the safety of the affected people, three village doctors are stationed here in shifts, and every morning and evening will kill each area.

A reporter from China News Agency saw in a classroom that tables and chairs were placed aside, brand-new bedding was neatly spread on the ground, and villagers who had had breakfast sat around and chatted together.

Wei Jinpeng, who just finished the college entrance examination, pointed to the rescue news on his mobile phone and said, "All parts of the country are coming to support Henan. I believe we will be able to survive."

Near noon, the volunteers brought in baskets of potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes and other ingredients to prepare for lunch.

"As long as the people and the earth are there, I'm not afraid." Duan Xilin planned to wait for the water to recede and clear up the crops first.
