In the classroom, they wear headphones, operate the keyboard, and use shortcut keys to browse the web, which looks no different from normal students.
It is reported that the School of Special Education of Changchun University has been offering computer courses for the blind for more than ten years. The purpose is to hope that these blind students can use computers like normal people and learn more about new things.
Currently, there are more than 80 blind students in the college, and the two-hour computer class per week can be described as their "favorite".
The reporter learned that blind students can adjust the display font size and font color by using screen reader software to learn.
“The screen-reading software works with some shortcut keys of the operating system. What the mouse points to on the screen is transmitted to classmates’ ears by voice, just as classmates can actually see things.” Gao Peng, lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Changchun University Say.
Although blind students cannot see the videos and images brought by the Internet, they can still surf the Internet as long as they have a keyboard and software.
In fact, for blind students, learning to use a computer is not an easy task.
Gao Peng introduced that memorizing the position of the keyboard and various shortcut keys is the most difficult part of the learning process. They need to listen to the instructions over and over again, and the hard work is several times more than that of normal students.
Although blind students have limitations in learning computers, they can only do some simple operations, but they can meet their basic needs in the future.
"Students can simply operate some office software, forms, browse news, listen to music, and ask for help on the Internet. This is achievable," Gao Peng said.
"I like computer classes very much. Although I can't see it, I can also learn new things." Freshman Liu Qian told reporters.
Gao Peng said that the computer class has created a barrier-free learning space for visually impaired students. It is very gratifying to see them enjoy the joy of learning.
