Informed sources said that the seventh round of the Vienna negotiations will culminate today, Friday, with an official meeting to agree to resume them next week, after consulting on two draft proposals submitted by Tehran.

Despite previous statements that were not optimistic from the two sides, the Iranian Foreign Ministry saw the possibility of reaching a good agreement.

Sources from within the Vienna negotiations said that the meeting will be held near midday between Iran, France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China, in order to agree to resume these talks next week.

Western delegations are scheduled to return to their capitals to consult on two draft proposals submitted by Tehran regarding lifting sanctions and the nuclear file, and are awaiting a response from Western countries on them.

And the website Axios quoted Western diplomats as saying that they told the Iranian delegation that the draft it had submitted for negotiations was "not serious."

In the same context, an Iranian official told Reuters, "We are ready to stay in Vienna for further talks."

pessimism on both sides

On the fourth day of indirect talks between the United States and Iran on returning the two countries to full compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement, the two sides expressed pessimism about reviving the agreement that former US President Donald Trump withdrew from in 2018.

"There are external players who are making efforts to disrupt the talks," Ali Bagheri, the chief Iranian negotiator, told Al Jazeera. "We have a third proposal that will be presented as soon as the international powers accept the first two proposals."

Bagheri stressed that the Iranian proposals cannot be rejected, as they depend on the terms of the 2015 agreement.

In response to Israeli statements calling for an immediate halt to the negotiations, Baqeri said that it would not dare dream of attacking Iran, because that would be its end, as he described it.

Bagheri had urged the parties to the nuclear agreement to study his country's proposals and prepare for serious negotiations on them.

As for US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, he said yesterday - during a meeting in Stockholm - that Washington will not accept the fait accompli that Iran wants to impose with regard to the nuclear agreement.

Blinken considered that the recent indicators are not optimistic, but it is not too late for Iran to reverse its behavior and make efforts to continue the talks.

Possibility to reach an agreement

In turn, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said, during a phone call he received from European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, that "there is a possibility to reach a good agreement," and called on "some parties to change their behavior from threats to cooperation," describing the negotiation process as Good but slow.

Abdullahian added that the goal of his country's participation is to lift the sanctions that contradict the nuclear agreement, and that his country's delegation attended the negotiations in good faith and seriousness, as he put it.

In the same call, the Iranian minister said that Western countries should present practical and realistic proposals to lift sanctions, and that his country is committed to technical cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
