21 August 2021 The return of the US majors to the Venice Film Festival (1 -11 September), a clear sign of a change of pace only just glimpsed at the Cannes Film Festival. At the Lido, on the other hand, it gets serious. In fact, three Universal films are in the official selection: LAST NIGHT IN SOHO and HALLOWEEN KILLS (both out of competition) and, in competition, THE CARD COLLECTOR. There will then be a doc blockbuster signed by Warner, DUNE and, finally, a Fox-Disney film such as MONA LISA AND THE BLOOD MOON by Ana Lily Amirpour.
Add to this the exquisitely indie western USA, or OLD HENRY by Potsy Ponciroli. And this without counting Netflix which can boast four works in competition:
Sorrentino's film E 'STATA LA MANO DI DIO and Gyllenhaal's directorial debut with THE LOST DAUGHTER, from the novel by Elena Ferrante; in Orizzonti Extra then there is the Brazilian director Alexandre Moratto with his 7 PRISONERS and finally the long-awaited film by Jane Campion THE POWER OF THE DOG.

Venice is tempting. It is at the beginning of the new season; it is a springboard that has proved its worth. We launch films for the Oscar every year and have often won ".
In fact, together with the majors, the stars also arrive, at least those who manage to come. This is the case of HALLOWEEN KILLS starring Jamie Lee Curtis, star of the film directed
by David Gordon Green, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Lido, but also applies to THE CARD COLLECTOR by Paul Schrader with Oscar Isaac (who boasts the record of three films in Venice), Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan and Willem Dafoe. What about DUNE. In Denis Villeneuve's film there is full of stars: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem. In MONA LISA AND THE BLOOD MOON by Ana Lily Amirpour we also find Jeon Jong-seo (Burning), Kate Hudson, Craig Robinson and Evan Whitten.
On the Netflix front, apart from ours IT WAS THE HAND OF GOD by Paolo Sorrentino, we find THE LOST DAUGHTER by Maggie Gyllenhaal with Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard and our Alba Rohrwacher; THE POWER OF THE DOG by Jane Campion with Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons and finally the aforementioned 7 PRISONERS.
