How to encourage people over 80 to get vaccinated against Covid-19?

They are in fact more than 500,000 who still have not received an injection.

0800 730 957. This is the new toll-free number for over 80s, announced Tuesday by the government.

It is open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to seniors and caregivers to help make appointments, in the center or at home.

People over 80 are the most at risk, and yet the least vaccinated against Covid-19.

At the beginning of October in fact, 87% of them were vaccinated in France, against 93% of 60-80 year olds.

Focus on liberal nurses

They are too old to travel, refractory to the vaccine, or completely removed from care.

These 500,000 unvaccinated octogenarians will now be able, thanks to the toll-free number, to request an injection at home.

The regional agencies will pilot mobile teams, to be deployed as quickly as possible for John Pinte, president of the national union of liberal nurses (Sniil).

"The risk of the ARS is that it is often quite complex and very administrative. We must not build gas factories but rather simplify the route by using the network already in the field. And that goes in particular through the liberal nurses. who do 95% of their business from home, ”he explains.

"We have to manage to encourage this population which is sometimes resistant and isolated," he continues.

According to him, a salary increase in home work for nurses will also speed up the vaccination of seniors.
