March 31, 2021 - Deaths in the United States last year surpassed 3.3 million, the highest annual figure on record.

This includes about 375,000 deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.



Covid-19 was the third leading cause of death in the US in 2020, after heart disease and cancer.

It has also taken the place of suicide as one of the 10 leading causes of death in the North American country.

Overall, the death rate in the year increased by nearly 16% over the previous year.



Currently, the total deaths from Covid-18 in the US exceed 550 thousand. Overall death rates are highest among African Americans and Native Americans and Alaskans, while the highest death rate from Covid-19 is among Hispanics.
