US announces $1 billion military aid package to Ukraine

The United States will provide $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, acting Pentagon spokesman Todd Bressell announced on Monday, the largest assistance package ever conducted using the Presidential Drawdown Authority on American stockpiles, including munitions for long-range weapons and armored medical transport vehicles.

The deal is in addition to some $8.8 billion in aid the United States has provided to Ukraine since the start of the Russian offensive on February 24.

The new military aid package will include munitions for the HIMARS Rapid-Moving Rocket Artillery System (HIMARS) and the Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) and 50 M113 Armored Medical Transport Vehicles.
