United Arab Emirates inaugurates first embassy in Israel

Two weeks after the inauguration of the Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi, it is the turn of the United Arab Emirates to open theirs in Tel Aviv.

A key step in the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday.

This Gulf monarchy thus becomes the third Arab country to have an embassy in Israeli territory.

The UAE's national anthem blaring in central Tel Aviv, the moment is called historic by UAE and Israeli officials.

Until then, only two Arab countries, Egypt and Jordan, had an embassy in Israel.

The United Arab Emirates therefore join the very limited club of Arab countries to maintain diplomatic ties with the Hebrew state, and to be officially present on Israeli soil.

Last summer, Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced their rapprochement, before signing in the wake of the famous

Abraham

Agreements, the peace agreements in September 2020, under the aegis of the United States of the former president Donald Trump.

Another Gulf monarchy, Bahrain, was also part of these peace treaties which subsequently helped warm relations between Israel and Morocco and Israel and Sudan.

With the opening of this new diplomatic mission in Tel Aviv, Israel and the United Arab Emirates also affirm "to 

work for the stability of the region

 ".
