Ukraine and the United States in a joint statement called Nord Stream 2 a threat

The document was adopted during a visit to Washington by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he met with American leader Joe Biden.

“Ukraine and the United States continue to oppose Nord Stream 2, which we regard as a threat to European energy security,” the document says.

It also argues that the governments of Ukraine and the United States support efforts "to increase capacity to supply gas to Ukraine from diversified sources."

As noted in the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian side has no task to suspend gas supplies through Ukraine, and Russia has never used energy and its natural resources as an element of pressure or blackmail.

At the same time, Naftogaz Ukrainy emphasized that the launch of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline threatens to lose the country's revenues from transit, as well as the loss of the “security component”.

The United States has appointed diplomat Amos Hochstein as senior adviser to the State Department for energy security to work to "reduce the risks" associated with Nord Stream 2.
