The rear-view mirror scam would have claimed a new victim on Tuesday without the vigilance of the Hauts-de-Seine police officers.
A 91-year-old motorist was attacked by two men in the parking lot of his residence in Meudon, reports
Le Parisien
.
The latter then made him believe that he had just damaged their rear-view mirror and that he should therefore compensate them immediately.
They ask the old man to withdraw 1,400 euros
They then drove the nonagenarian to an ATM and asked him to withdraw 1,400 euros in cash.
The victim was only allowed to withdraw 200 euros through his bank.
But, when he was going to hand over the tickets to the crooks, agents from the anti-crime squad arrested the two men in flagrante delicto.
The police were particularly monitoring the area after noticing an upsurge in this type of scam in recent weeks.
They first spotted the two suspects and then tailed them when they started following the old man.
An intuition which allowed the victim to leave with his 200 euros.
