According to the website of the General Administration of Customs, the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs have recently issued an announcement on preventing the introduction of Mauritius foot-and-mouth disease into my country.

The announcement requires that it is forbidden to import cloven-toed animals and their related products directly or indirectly from Mauritius (derived from unprocessed cloven-toed animals or products that may still transmit disease despite being processed).

  The announcement stated that on March 27, 2021, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) announced that an O-type foot-and-mouth disease outbreak occurred on a farm in Rodriguez, Mauritius, involving 57 cattle of susceptible animals.

In order to protect the safety of our country’s animal husbandry and prevent the spread of the epidemic, in accordance with the "Customs Law of the People's Republic of China", "The Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China" and its implementation regulations and other relevant laws and regulations, the announcement is as follows:

  It is forbidden to import cloven-hoofed animals and their related products directly or indirectly from Mauritius (derived from unprocessed cloven-hoofed animals or products that may still transmit disease despite being processed).

  It is prohibited to send or bring cloven-hoofed animals and their products from Mauritius into the country.

Once found, they will be returned or destroyed.

  If cloven-hoofed animals and their products from Mauritius are found on incoming ships, aircraft, road vehicles, railway trains and other means of transport, they will all be sealed for storage, and they must not be unsealed without customs permission during their stay or operation in my country .

The waste and swill shall be treated in a harmless manner under the supervision of the customs and shall not be discarded without authorization.

If an epidemic of foot-and-mouth disease is found on the transportation means, the contaminated or possibly contaminated areas shall be supervised and disinfected in strict accordance with the law.

  The illegal entry of cloven-hoofed animals and their products from Mauritius intercepted by border defense departments shall be destroyed under the supervision of the customs.

  Anyone who violates the above regulations shall be dealt with by the customs in accordance with the "Customs Law of the People's Republic of China", "The Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China" and the relevant provisions of its implementing regulations.

  The announcement pointed out that all levels of customs, animal disease prevention and control agencies, and animal health supervision agencies shall respectively comply with the relevant provisions of the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People’s Republic of China, and the Animal Epidemic Prevention Law of the People’s Republic of China. Cooperate closely to do a good job in quarantine, epidemic prevention and supervision.
