The alarm about the accident that occurred on road 99 between Övertorneå and Niemis was received at 16.49 on Friday.
The rescue service and ambulance have rushed to the scene of the accident.
And according to the first information, a total of five people were in the vehicles in connection with the accident.
All five are said to have gotten out of the vehicles, but their injury situation is currently unknown.
Southbound lane closed
Both cars are in the ditch, but according to the Swedish Transport Administration, there is limited traffic at the accident site.
Traffic is expected to be affected until 6 pm on Friday evening.

The police are also on their way to the accident site.
