The Alteo factory in Gardanne -

Mickaël Penverne / 20 Minutes

Two companies are candidates for the takeover of Alteo, world leader in specialty alumina based in Gardanne (Bouches-du-Rhône) known for its "red mud", according to statements from sources concurring to AFP.

In receivership for almost a year, Alteo, whose production is used for the manufacture of smartphone screens, batteries or tiles, had received eight offers but six of them were withdrawn, announces Bruno Arnoux, representative of the inter-union.

Bruno Arnoux, as well as another source close to the matter, confirmed that the two offers still in the running were that of the former director of plant operations, Xavier Perrier, and that of the logistics group based in Guinea, United Mining Supply (UMS), which works a lot with mining companies.

The offers to take over this factory which employs around 500 people will be examined on Tuesday by the Marseille commercial court.

The decision will likely be reserved.
