In the message sent to their nationals in Turkey, the American authorities indicate that they have received "

credible information

" justifying the suspension of visa services and services to American citizens throughout Turkey.

The embassy in Ankara and the three consular representations, in Istanbul, Izmir and Adana, are concerned.

The security alert mentions a threat of "

terrorist attacks

", including against the Consulate General in Istanbul, and possible "

kidnappings of American citizens and foreign nationals

 ".

US officials recommend "

increased caution

" in places frequented by Americans and other foreigners, including shopping malls and office buildings.

They advise their citizens to “

keep

a low profile

 ” and “

avoid crowds

 ”.

The alert does not say more about the origin of the threat.

The warnings come hours after

the US military announced it had carried out a strike

against "

senior officials

" of Al Qaeda near Idleb, in northwestern Syria.
