Donald Trump threatened on Tuesday night to veto the military funding law for 2021 unless Congress abolishes the law that protects the legal status of social media, which the US president regularly accuses of being biased against his camp Politics.

"Section 230, which is a gift of immunity granted by the United States to Big Tech (...) represents a serious threat to our national security and the integrity of the elections", affirmed on Twitter the billionaire Republican, who was not reelected but refuses to concede defeat.

“Our country can never be sure if we leave it in place. So if the very dangerous and unfair Section 230 is not completely abolished by the Military Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), I will be forced to affix my VETO, ”he continued.

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, often considered the cornerstone of the Internet in the United States, prevents legal action related to content posted by third parties.

It allows Facebook, YouTube and many other hosting sites (and not publishers, such as the media) not to be held responsible for comments made by users and to intervene on the platforms as they see fit.

Donald Trump has been trying to have it removed or reformed since May, when Twitter began to hide messages from the tempestuous president, mentioning the type of violation of its regulations (apologia for violence, misleading content, etc.).
