"Today's launch confirms that the future is in the private space industry," Trump quoted TASS as saying.

The American leader noted that putting Crew Dragon into orbit was cheaper than under the Space Shuttle return ship program.

“As part of NASA’s commercial manned flight program, we will use rockets and spaceships designed, built, launched and owned by private American companies,” he added.

Earlier, Donald Trump called the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket with SpaceX's Crew Dragon ship “a triumphant return to the stars.”
