Young and promising cyclist Quinn Simmons has been shelved by the Trek-Segafredo team "until further notice".

The team did not appreciate pro-Trump tweets from its 19-year-old American rider, which were deemed "divisive, inflammatory and bad for the team" by the team sponsored by bike maker Trek.

“Regrettably, team rider Quinn Simmons has made statements online that we believe are divisive, inflammatory and detrimental to the team, professional cycling […] As a result, he will no longer be competing in races for Trek-Segafredo until further notice ”, indicates the American formation in a statement published on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.

In the wake of the first debate of the American presidential campaign between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the 2019 junior world champion, who is playing his first season with the professionals, replied "Goodbye", accompanied by a black hand emoji, to a Dutch journalist who advised supporters of the outgoing president not to follow her on Twitter.

Private Flèche Wallone (which does not suit him)

Racial issues are at the center of the US presidential campaign.

The last few months have been marked in particular by major protests after the deaths of Breonna Taylor, a young black woman killed in her home in March by the police in Louisville, and of George Floyd, who died suffocated under the knee of a police officer in late May in Minneapolis.

Faced with the controversy, Trek decided to suspend from competition "until further notice" Simmons, 135th of the Flèche Wallonne Wednesday but whose profile corresponds more to the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix scheduled for October 18 and 25.
