The different categories of sailboats now take different routes.
If the first Ultim entered the Doldrums, the Ocean Fifty and the Imocas crossed Cape Verde, while the Class 40 sailed along the Portuguese and Moroccan coasts before heading directly to Martinique.
In the Ultims category, more than 700 miles now separate the leaders of the 5th and last in the category, Sodebo Ultim 3 of Thomas Coville and Thomas Rouxel who were forced to a technical stopover in Madeira, after a shock Thursday with a floating object not identified.
In Class 40, it is less than a nautical mile that separates the first, Redman, helmed by Antoine Carpentier and Pablo Santurde del Arco, from the second, Banque du Leman, of Valentin Gautier and Simon Koster.
Of the 79 boats at the start, a week ago, 77 are still in the race after the retirement of two boats in the Imoca category.
