Let's take a look at the damage caused by the torrential rain from the 8th until now.

First, the torrential rains killed 15 people and left 5 missing.

Property damage is also serious, with more than 15,000 houses and shopping malls flooded, of which 14,000 were in Seoul.

A total of 380 landslides occurred in the Gyeonggi area.

The damage to crops is six times that of Yeouido, and half of that is rice paddy fields in South Chungcheong Province.

In the midst of the great scars left by the heavy rain, damage restoration work is in full swing in various places, and even after cleaning it up, water damage and waste are pouring out endlessly.

Reporter Park Ye-rin covered the situation in Seoul.

A residential area in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul after heavy rain.

Mattresses and furnishings are scattered all over the place, and the work of moving unused furniture, etc. to the waste collection vehicle is repeated.

A week later, the flood damage site was revisited, and water damage is still piled up on the streets.

[Kim Geum-soon / Gwanak-gu, Seoul: There are too many.

because there are too many

It's not just here.

i cleaned it all up

It's a closet and I can't say anything, and I can't even say anything about the smell.]

The stench vibrates with the humid weather and sweltering heat.

[Lee Jong-cheol / Gwanak-gu, Seoul: Because the sheep came out to the extent that a car could not drive through the alley.

It smells like mold.]

Before being transferred to a landfill or incineration plant, flood waste goes to a transfer site operated by the local government.

[Gu Office Environment Officer: (round trip) We were digesting that amount in about 9 times a day, but since the flood, we have been working on it almost twice, from 15 to 20 at most. As

more than 10,000 tons of waste generated in Seoul accumulates, the repatriation centers of local governments in flood-damaged areas are saturated

.

This was originally a place for recycling waste.

However, as there is a lot of water damage, we are temporarily treating it here as well. As you can see, you can easily find waste such as sofas and mattresses.

Before moving to a landfill or incineration plant, waste must be sorted by treatment method, but there is no manpower to do the sorting work, so it is only accumulating.

At this rate, the removal of waste from flood-damaged areas may be delayed, and countermeasures are urgently needed.
