It was discovered that the Metropolitan Police Department had mistakenly arrested a Vietnamese man on suspicion of assault on the night of the 20th, alleging that he had grabbed the chest of a man in his 50s on the streets of Toshima Ward, Tokyo.



When the victim checked his face at the police station, he was found to be a different person, and the Metropolitan Police Department released the man and apologized.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, before 9 pm on the 20th, there was a 110th call on the sidewalk in Nishiikebukuro, Toshima-ku, saying, "I was caught in my chest when I noticed that foreigners were making noise."



When a police officer from the Ikebukuro police station rushed in after receiving the report, a group of foreigners was drinking and making noise on the street, and the Metropolitan Police Department was near based on the testimony of a man in his 50s and witnesses. I arrested a Vietnamese man in his thirties on suspicion of assault.



However, when a police officer spoke to the victim at the scene, the Vietnamese man was about 10 meters away, and when he was asked to check his face again at the police station, he was found to be a different person. ..



For this reason, the Metropolitan Police Department released the man about two and a half hours after his arrest and apologized.



The investigation has continued since then, but the suspect has not been identified.



Regarding the reason for the apology and arrest, the Metropolitan Police Department said that it was insufficient to collect objective evidence and confirm it on site, and commented that "we will thoroughly guide and educate people to prevent recurrence."
