July 31, 2021 A blue flash lights up the night of the Tokyo Olympic stadium, where an amazing Marcell Jacobs qualifies for the 100-meter semifinals, improving his Italian record.

The sprinter born in El Paso, Texas, but raised on Lake Garda, by an American father and an Italian mother, wins his battery thanks to a sensational 9.94 with which he files his record achieved in Savona on May 13 by one cent.

Jacobs dominated his drums, slowing down conspicuously in the finale when he was sure of success.

"I didn't expect it, I got a good start, but not with my usual frequencies. I thought I wasn't running very fast, I also checked in the final. I'm super happy", said the blue to Rai microphones after the race.

With a Jacobs this opens up scenarios that were previously unthinkable and so far only dreamed of, with the blue who actually signs the second best time in the heats behind only the Canadian André De Grasse (9.91) and ahead of the American Fred Kerley (9.97) and the Nigerian Enoch Adegoke (9.97).

"I have been dreaming of this moment for a lifetime, I am more aware and we are starting to see results. The conditions are excellent, I am in good shape and tomorrow we hope to do even better", declared the blue again. "I didn't give everything, because I hope to race two more times tomorrow. I haven't thought much about my opponents, tomorrow we will play everything for everything", he added.

To make the Japanese evening magnificent, there is also the qualification of a rediscovered Filippo Tortu, author of a 10.10 (0.6) which guarantees the passage of the round to the semifinals.

The appointment with the semifinals of the 100 is for tomorrow, followed by the final with the hope of seeing at least one of the two Azzurri at the start.
