Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and their eldest daughter, Princess Aiko, viewed a special exhibition of national treasures held at the Tokyo National Museum together as a family.
Their Majesties and Princess Aiko arrived at the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo after 6:00 pm on the 24th.
During the special exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the museum's founding, all 89 national treasures in the museum's collection are on display while the exhibits are being replaced.
The family spent about an hour and a half viewing national treasures, such as the Hinokizu Byobu, a late work by Eitoku Kano, a painter of the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
This is the first time the family has appeared together in public since they attended a sumo match in January two years ago.
The emperor is said to have said, "The three of us were able to leisurely look at the wonderful works represented by national treasures and spend a fulfilling time together."
This special exhibition, "National Treasures: All of the Tokyo National Museum," is open until the 11th of next month with advance reservations.
