On June 8, local time, at an auction at Sotheby's in London, collectibles retailer Stanley Gibbons bought a 165-year-old stamp for $8.3 million.

The stamp titled "British Guiana One Cent Magenta" was issued during the British rule of Guyana, and its history can be traced back to 1856.

There was a shortage of stamps at that time. Its size was only 29×26 mm and it was specially printed by a local newspaper.

Previously, it has been auctioned four times.

Before Stanley Gibbons bought it, this stamp was purchased by American shoe designer Stuart Weitzman at the Sotheby's auction in 2014 for a record $9.4 million, making it the most expensive stamp in the world .
