China News Agency, Xining, April 24 (Reporter Sun Rui) April 24, 2022 is the seventh China Space Day.

At 9 o'clock on the same day, the world's first full-system sounding rocket launch test based on high-altitude balloons, co-operated by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Xingjiantian Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd., was successfully held at the Lenghu Mars Camp in Qinghai, marking the world's first The near-space space-based platform rocket was successfully launched.

Lenghu Mars Camp is located in Erboliang Yadan area, 60 kilometers west of Lenghu Town, Mangya City, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is 270 kilometers away from Gansu Dunhuang Airport and 430 kilometers away from Qinghai Delingha Airport.

Zhang Yichi, general manager of Beijing Xingjiantian Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd., introduced that the launch used a high-altitude balloon as a near-space space-based launch platform, and a high-altitude zero-pressure helium balloon was used to lift the rocket to an altitude of 25 kilometers to 40 kilometers, and then passed the Remote control to achieve air ignition and launch.

The world's first full-system sounding rocket launch test based on a high-altitude balloon.

Zhang Yichi said that at present, China's detection methods for the high-altitude atmosphere are relatively simple, and the detection of more than 50 kilometers can only rely on traditional sounding rocket technology, which is expensive and inefficient. The chain integrity is low.

In the near space air-based platform rocket launch, the high-altitude zero-pressure helium balloon takes the rocket and the launch platform to an altitude of 25 kilometers to 40 kilometers, and then the rocket system is ignited and launched.

This can not only greatly reduce the size of the rocket and reduce the cost, but also combine the advantages of traditional atmospheric detection methods to continuously detect all atmospheric layers in the detection area to form a complete data chain.

"This will be the world's first such launch to achieve a substantial breakthrough, and it is also a leap innovation for atmospheric physics research and detection methods. In addition, this technology will also help expand research in hypersonics, space science and other aspects, and further optimization and improvement in the future. It can even effectively reduce the cost of satellite transportation." Zhang Yichi said.

Zhang Yichi said that Lenghu not only has the vast Gobi no-man’s land suitable for launch experiments, but also is an unparalleled suitable scene in terms of exploration in addition to its geographical location.
