"After 80 years, the 101st Airborne Division, known as the Screaming Eagles, is returning to Europe," the US Mission to NATO said on Twitter.

It is noted that about 2.4 thousand troops will be deployed on the territories of Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia to "protect the eastern flank of NATO" and "contain the opponents" of the alliance.

Earlier, the press service of the US ground forces said that in the fall, about 260 US troops would be sent to Europe to "support European allies" in NATO.
