The number of national high-tech zones with operating income exceeding 100 billion yuan has increased from 54 in 2012 to 97 in 2021.

The research and experimental development (R&D) investment in the national high-tech zone has increased by 3.7 times in ten years, and will exceed 1 trillion yuan for the first time in 2021, accounting for 48.2% of the national enterprise R&D investment; the number of high-tech enterprises in the national high-tech zone has increased in ten years. 6.4 times, from less than 20,000 in 2012 to 115,000.

The proportion of the national high-tech zone enterprises' effective invention patents in the country will increase from 29.5% in 2012 to 44.0% in 2021.

More than 2/3 of the 58 enterprises undertaking the national "New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic Prevention and Control Emergency Scientific Research Project" are enterprises in the National High-tech Zone, and 12 of the 13 leading enterprises are located in the National High-tech Zone.

The National High-tech Zone actively cultivates and expands digital economy industries such as artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain, and continuously promotes strategic emerging industries such as intelligent manufacturing, new-generation information technology, and biomedicine.

Five of the six high-tech manufacturing industries account for more than 30% of the national total. The National High-tech Zone has gathered 9,469 venture capital institutions and 6,759 technology financial service institutions, making it the most active area for angel investment and venture capital in China.

In the past ten years, the number of business incubators and the number of newly registered enterprises in the National High-tech Zone have increased by 9 times and 4.3 times respectively.

By the end of 2021, the National High-tech Zone will gather more than 1,200 universities and more than 4,400 research institutes. In the past ten years, the proportion of total exports of national high-tech zones in national exports of goods and services has increased from 3.2% to 24.4%, and the proportion of high-tech product exports in exports of high-tech zones has increased from 49.8% to 62.0%.

In 2021, high-tech enterprises will attract 47,000 foreign permanent residents and 211,000 returnees from overseas studies, which are 1.02 times and 2.8 times that of 2012, respectively.

More than 77% of the national high-tech zones have issued international policies to actively explore and utilize the international market. There are more than 2,200 overseas R&D institutions established in the national high-tech zones, an increase of 4.6 times compared with 2012.
